Mass Murder of Houbara Bustard

Thousands of Houbara birds from cold countries come to the desert areas in Pakistan during the winter season. However these birds do not know that they will be killed by the royals of Arab countries. These royals camp here and hunt these birds. These royals hunt these birds with the help of dozens of specially-trained falcons.

Unfortunately, this mindless violence is arranged by the government of Pakistan. This year too the Pakistan government has issued 12 permits for around 815 trained hunting falcons. They include two permits for 135 falcons for the royal family of Saudi Arabia, five permits for 200 falcons for Bahrain's royal family, two permits for 250 falcons for UAE and three permits for 230 falcons for royal families of Qatar. The Pakistan Government has given most of the hunting permits to the royalty and allotted them different desert areas for it. Each permit allows 100 birds to be hunted. The royals pay the Pakistan government millions of dollars to let them hunt the bird as its meat is delicious and is considered an aphrodisiac.

This state sponsored mass murder of these innocent birds is outrageous. It is quite unfortunate that thousands of birds are killed every year just for the sake of taste and adventure. The killing of birds must stop immediately. If the government of Pakistan needs to earn money, it should use its national resources and not kill innocent birds. What a shame!

Poachers on a Free Run

An adult male elephant was shot dead and its flesh cut away in a reserve forest in the Assam state of India recently. Poachers also beheaded the elephant and took away its trunk, tusks and limbs before escaping from the forest. It is said that three people sneaked into the forest and shot dead the elephant and cut it into pieces. In another incident, poachers killed a female rhino in another national park in India.
These unfortunate incidents have happened because of the failure of the forest department officials. Most of these officials are corrupt and let poachers into the forest to go on a hunting spree of innocent and harmless animals. They are hand in glove with the poachers and are on their payroll. The government must take stringent action against these corrupt officials and must ensure the safety and well-being of our animal friends.

For years, innocent animals are being killed and their body parts being smuggled out of the country in order to make money. This has become a thriving business for poachers who have a very strong network of people working for them including government officials. Apparently, everybody wants to be a part of the gravy train. However, this mindless violence against animals must be stopped imediately. The government must take steps to curb this menace and should make stict laws to end the brutal murder of animals. The civil society too has to play an important role by raising their voice and force the lawmakers to make such laws. We all must remember that if the animals of the planet will vanish, we will vanish too.

Animal Sacrifice and Us

Animal sacrifice is the ritual killing of helpless, innocent animals as part of different religions worldwide. Here, I want to make it very clear that I am not against any religion, but I abhor murder of defenseless creatures in the name of religion. All the religions spread the message of love, peace and brotherhood, and killing majestic animals to appease God is beyond sensible comprehension.

Rather than killing beautiful animals, we must get involved in acts of kindness towards all sentient beings - humans or animals. Today, there are millions of humans and animals who are starving. They need our help, kindness and love in order to survive. If we help ease their pain, give them food and shelter, and make them smile; God will be more happy and give His blessings to us. Because God loves those, who are kind to all.

Come world, let us show that we are really humane, and that we truly care for our planet and all those who live on it! Let us stop killing and torturing others in the name of religion or for mere greed! Let us spread love and peace, and give a little sunshine to all!

Drinking Deer Blood!!!

Recently, a section of the rich Chinese people celebrated the mid - autumn moon festival by drinking the blood of freshly slaughtered deer!! A private deer breeding farm near Nanjing did brisk business as people traveled from distant places to see the farm owner drink the flowing blood straight from the cut horns, the Nanjing Morning Post reported. Some drank the fresh blood in small cups, some mixed it with liquor and a few drank it straight from the cut antlers. People visiting the farm subscribe to an old notion that drinking fresh antler blood can cure several ills and hugely improve their health!

Sometimes, I wonder how many health problems the Chineses are suffering from! They eat tiger parts and other animals to increase their sexual power! And now this deer blood to cure them of some illness! This is a shame that instead of visiting a doctor or getting expert medical advice, cruel humans are butchering innocent, defenseless animals in the name of curing some mysterious disease. This is simply outrageous. The government, which must take steps to stop this mindless violence against animals, is being a mute spectator and doing nothing. The government officials must be drinking innocent deer blood themselves!

we all have to raise our voice against such cruel atrocities and save our animal friends before they are all extinct!

How to Save Animals

It is an unfortunate fact that animal abuse has been rampant since the beginning of the civilization. There are still no enough strict laws to save our animal friends or stiff penalties for poachers and animal abusers. However, we can do a lot to help these animals by taking some action eg. signing petitions, raising our voice at all available platforms, including social media; and by donating some of our earnings for their welfare and rehabilitation.

There are many other ways to help our animal friends. We can adopt animals from shelters, thus providing them a new home where they can live happily thereafter. It is always good to adopt a pet than to buy one from a pet shop or an animal breeder. Any incident of animal abuse must be reported immediately to the authorities so that the offenders are caught and punished. This might prove to be a restraint for future animal abusers. If we happen to find an animal that is injured, we must always call the animal helpline number so that the animal gets appropriate medical help on time. We can save humdreds of precious animal lives this way. We must stay away from hunting innocent animals. We must also not support the Fur Industry which alone is responsible for millions of animal deaths every year.

Apart from taking all these measures, we can share our thoughts about animal welfare and animal rights among our family and friends to raise awareness. We should always remember that the Earth belongs to animals as much as it belongs to us. If we want to live on this planet happily, we will have to save animals and let them live alongside us. Save animals, save the planet!

Tiger Killed Again

A gang of poachers entered a high-security zoo in Itanagar in the Arunachal Pradesh state of India, and hacked a tiger to death last night. The poachers tranquilised the six-year-old tigress before entering its enclosure and cutting it into six pieces. The arrival of security guards prevented the poachers from carrying away the mutilated animal. The poaching and smuggling of tiger body parts is common across India. The animals are prized throughout East Asia in general and China in particular for the supposed medicinal value of their body parts.
Tiger numbers have shrunk alarmingly in India in recent decades. A 2011 census counted about 1,700 tigers in the wild. A century ago there were estimated to be 100,000 tigers in India. There have been attempts at poaching animals in the zoo before, officials say. In February 2006, three tigers and a leopard were poisoned by unknown people. One tiger died, while the other two other animals survived. In June 2006, 30kg (66lb) of tiger parts - mainly bones and nails - were seized from a vehicle belonging to a police officer in Assam state. This is again a very unfortunate incident of an innocent animal being killed because of the greed of humans. There must be tight security arrangements to save these helpless animals from the cruel hands of poachers. Else, one day there will be no tigers or any other majestic animal left on the earth.

100 Species at Risk of Extinction

The spoon-billed sandpiper, three-toed sloth and a long-beaked echidna are among the 100 most endangered species in the world, according to a new study. The list of at-risk species has been published as conservationists warn that rare mammals, plants and fungi are being sacrificed as their habitats are appropriated for human use. Conservationists fear the species in 48 countries may die out because they don’t offer obvious benefits to humans! The list is headed by the ‘weird and wonderful’ spoon-billed sandpiper which breeds in Russia and migrates to Bangladesh and Myanmar. There are just 100 breeding pairs of the birds left in the wild with that number declining by a quarter annually.

There are also just 500 pygmy three-toed sloths left on the uninhibited Isla Escudo de Veraguas, 10 miles off the coast of Panama. They are half the size of sloths found on the mainland and are the smallest and slowest sloths in the world. But their numbers are declining with fishermen and lobster divers ‘opportunistically’ hunting the small animals. Man’s greed and barbaric attitude towards animals has made it increasingly difficult for conservationists to protect the most threatened species on the planet. While the utilitarian value of nature is important, conservation goes beyond this. Do these species have a right to survive or do we have a right to drive them to extinction??? If we take immediate action we can give them a fighting chance for survival. But this requires society to support the moral and ethical position that all species have an inherent right to exist.

There Must be a Heaven...

There must be a heaven for the animal friends we love. They are not human, yet they bring out our own humanity.... sometimes in ways that other people cannot. They do not worry about fame or fortune... instead, they bring out hearts nearer to the joy of simple things.
Each day they teach us little lessons in trust and steadfast affection. Whatever heaven may be, there's surely a place in it for friends as good as these.

Ignorance and Insensitivity towards Stray Dogs

Recently, there was news that a minister of the Punjab State Government in India spoke about the ‘menace’ of stray dogs in the state and how to get rid of this ‘problem’. He stated that all the dogs should be caught and sent to North-Eastern states of India or China where, he said, people know it well what to do with dogs! Apparently, he was referring to the fact that in China people kill dogs and eat them. This statement comes as a rude shock from a Minister who is supposed to be committed to the welfare of the people and the helpless animals. This shows the insensitivity and the ignorance of the government, and ultimately, of the society, towards helpless and harmless animals. This also shows the scant respect that they have for life. Life is as valuable to an animal as it is to a human.
Instead of talking of capturing and sending these helpless dogs to elsewhere, they should accept it as a challenge and spay and neuter these dogs so that their population is controlled. An effort should be made to provide homes to these animals and citizens should be encouraged to come forward and adopt them. Even shelters could be made for them where they are given food and water and are taken care of. We have to understand the fact that animals are our responsibility and we are entitled to treat them with dignity and give them their rights. We are not a barbaric society, are we? Animals came here before us and the Earth belongs to them more than it belongs to us.

Whales, Dolphins deserve Human Rights for their Intelligence

Marine biologists and philosophers have joined forces to support a declaration of rights for whales and dolphins on the grounds that their astonishing intelligence and emotional empathy puts them on a par with humans. Research into the complex behavior of cetaceans – whales, dolphins and porpoises – is revealing that these sea mammals are so highly evolved and complex in terms of their behavior that they deserve special protection with a universal bill of rights. Dolphins and whales have complex vocal communications and are able to learn an astonishing variety of behaviors when they come into contact with humans, such as cooperative fishing with native fishermen.

The proponents of the bill of rights argue that the cetacean mind is so advanced and self-aware that whales and dolphins should be classified as “non-human persons” who deserve the right to life, liberty and wellbeing. The declaration of rights states that every individual dolphin, whale and porpoise has the right to life and liberty and not only should they not be killed by hunting, but none should be kept in captivity or servitude or subject to cruel treatment. It states that no cetacean can be the property of any individual or government and calls for the legal protection of their natural environment and a ban on any activity that disrupts their ‘cultures’.

Animals’ Secret Lingo…

Scientists claim to have identified a ‘secret language’ used in the animal kingdom. An international team has found how animals use polarization, a type of light that humans cannot see, as an important tool for communication, the Current Biology journal reported. In their research, the scientists focused on a type of cuttlefish ( close relative of octopus and squid ) to show how polarization is used for communication in animal kingdom and its significance in biological signaling.
The findings revealed how cephalopods such as cuttlefish have the ability to see in many more directions of polarized light than previously thought, according to the scientists at UK’s Bristol University and Australia’s Queensland University. Justin Marshall, a team member, said humans had not yet developed the language to describe all roles of polarization in nature. These facts have proved once again how wise animals are. They are well ahead of humans and deserve all our respect.

Now the Elephant Cuisine…

A new taste for eating elephant meat – everything from trunks to sex organs – has emerged in Thailand and could pose a new threat to the survival of the species. This was discovered after two elephants were found slaughtered last recently in a national park in Thailand. The poachers took away the elephants’ sex organs and trunks for human consumption. Experts said that some meat was to be consumed cooking, like ‘elephant sashimi’.

It has been observed that poachers typically just remove trunks, which are commonly found on Asian male elephants and fetch thousands of dollars on the black market. A market for elephant meat, however, could lead to the killing of the wider elephant population. If elephants are hunted like this, they will become extinct soon.

Consuming elephant meat is not common in Thailand, but some Asian cultures believe consuming animals’ reproductive organs can boost sexual prowess. The question is how much sexual prowess people want, and that too at the cost of lives of millions of innocent animals. If they have any weakness in terms of sexual life, they should see a doctor who would treat them for their impotency! Why kill majestic animals? This is outrageous that human beings can become murderers just because of their whims, misconceptions and false beliefs. What a shame!

Climate Change: Hybrid Sharks Mark Survival Strategy

Researchers have discovered the world’s first hybrid sharks in Australian waters, indicating that animals are adapting to climate change for survival. Leading researchers in marine biology have come across 57 animals along a 2,000 km stretch from Queensland to New South Wales which they believe are the result of cross-breeding between the common black-tip shark and Australian black-tip shark, two related but genetically distinct species.

The inter-breeding between the two species shows that the animals are adapting to climate change and the hybridization can make the fishes stronger, the scientists said. They also said that hybridization can enable sharks to adapt to ecological change as the smaller Australian black-tip currently favors tropical waters in the north, while the larger common black-tip is more abundant in sub-tropical and temperate waters along the south-eastern Australian coastline.

This all is very alarming as the ecology is getting destroyed by man at a fast pace. So much so, that the majestic sharks have to adapt to new ways in order to survive. As if killing of creatures in water was not enough, man has almost destroyed the sea waters. Even the river waters have not been spared and the fish are being killed continuously. It’s a wonder why we humans don’t understand that if the ecology is destroyed, we all will be destroyed and there will be nothing left on this once beautiful earth to see, eat, and drink, forget hunting of innocent and helpless animals.
